It is amazing how Pokemon is famous around the world. As you may know, Pokemon, comes from Pocket Monster, is originally a Japanese animation program about its main characters’ trip to become a Pokemon Master with their Pokemon.

I found that it is interesting to see the names of these Pokemon.
There is a Pokemon named Abra.   The evolution version of this Pokemon is Kadabra.   The evolution of Kadabra is Alakazam. Abra-Kadabra-Alakazam.  These three Pokemon can use magical power, of course.

It is also interesting to compare these names in English to in Japanese.
Most of Pokemon resemble animals, bugs, and plants, and named after accordingly.
For example, Pikachu, the most famous Pokemon, looks like a mouse with electric tail is named after the sound of lightning (’pika’ in Japanese) and how a mouse goes (’chu’ in Japanese). Pikachu is called the same in Japanese.   So as Butterfree, which looks like butterfly.
Meowth, another famous Pokemon, looks like a cat, is called ‘Nya-th’ in Japanese. In Japanese, a cat goes
‘nya’ instead of ‘meow’.  Easily understandable.  I personally like this comparison: Ninetales, a fox-like Pokemon with nine tales, is called ‘Kyu-Kon’ in Japanese (’kyu’ is nine, and ‘kon’ is a root and how a fox goes in Japanese).

Just a small tip to enjoy Pokemon from another aspect.

“Astro Boy” is a manga originally written by late Osamu Tezuka, a famous Japanese manga writer, more than 50 years ago. It became to be aired on TV as the first Japan-made animation in 1963 in Japan. It is about a robot named Atom who has a strong power and a kind human hearts to solve troubles with human beings around it.
In October this year, the movie “Atom”, based on “Astro Boy” was shown in the US and Japan. Some of the Astro Boy fans seem to criticize the movie since the arrangement is made a way too far from the original. While that criticism, it is said that the movie Atom will be reviewed to be a nominee of the Academy Award for next year.
Astro Boy is in any way a famous and well written manga and loved by many people around the world for sure.

2009 is the year of 30th anniversary of Gundam. The animation of Gandum started on air in April of 1979. There are some events regarding to the anniversary. For example, a life-size Gundam statue was built in a summer event in Japan. Neon Genesis Evangelion is a TV anime series aired in Japan between 1995 and 1996, and also aired in USA, Europe and some Asian countries. The story is about these giant mecha and these chosen teenage pilots to control the mecha who together fight against the monstrous being, Angels.

Rebuild of Evangelion is a series of animated films basically based on Neon Genesis Evangelion. But, it was said that it contains a new character and a little bit of different ending from the original anime series, in order to make it easier for non- Evangelion-fans to understand. It seems that there are three films of this series: Evangelion Jo, Evangelion Ha, and Evangelion Kyu(Q). It is like the beginning, middle, and end of the series.
On May 27, 2009, Blu-ray and DVD of Rebuild of Evangelion Jo, Evangelion: 1.11 was released in Japan.  And Rebuild of Evangelion Ha is showing now in Japan since June 27, 2009.

It was reported that  BECK, a Japanese manga will start filming in July for its release in fall 2010 (starring Hiro Mizushima, a Japanese good looking actor).  BECK is a Japanese manga published in Monthly Shonen Magazine from 1999 by a manga writer Harold Sakuishi. It was also adapted as an anime television series (with the title BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad).   The story is about Japanese boys who become to know each other through music, form a rock band, learn musical techniques through interactions with other musical players, and make good relationships among each other by over coming troubles and obstructions.   In BECK, many famous guitars are introduced such as, Fender (Telecaster, Mustang), Gibson (Les Paul, SG), Rickenbacker, Ibanez, and others.  Music fans can find it interesting to see these instruments as well as its story.
