The 48th Shizuoka Hobby Show was held on May 14 to 17 this year in Shizuoka Japan.  This annual exhibition of scale models started in 1959 for the first time.   This year, 82 RC and model manufactures joined the show to exhibit, while 161 groups of amateur RC and model fans, or modelers, also joined to exhibit more their works, total of more than 5000.  They are not professional, but they are all skilled model makers.   Those skilled works includes cars, aircrafts, ships, characters, and others.

Among Hasegawa, Bandai, Tamiya, Fujimi and other model kit makers, Kyosho, a RC and model manufacture also joined this show as well.   RC and model kits of all these manufactures are available on Yahoo Japan auctions.

The other day, I was reading a fashion magazine and found an eye catch brand logo; the logo of Tory Burch.  In the magazine, I saw some shoes and tote bags of Tory Burch.   The design is simple and the color is vivid which makes the logo shown up.

I mentioned about this year’s the World’s Most Influential People in Time Magazine in my last blog.  Another famous Japanese, who was a nominee and was on a list of those 100 people, is Takashi Murakami, a contemporary artist.   His works look unique in style; look like manga characters for the most of the time.

He also work with famous Louis Vuitton, and other brands, to create collaborate works.

Time Magazine recently announced its annual ‘The World’s Most Influential People 100′ of 2009.  Shigeru Miyamoto, a Japanese game producer and game designer has an experience of being elected as one of them in 2007.  He was nominated in the list in the next year as well.  I cannot find his name in the top 5 of the 100 most influential people for this year in Time Magazine.  But I heard he is called as “father of modern video games,” or “the Walt Disney of electronic gaming”.  It explains everything.  He IS an influential person for sure.

The development of electronics are amazing.  An article indicates a new technology of organic electro-luminescence as a material of the panel of next-generation flat TVs.  This new material is to follow the liquid crystal display and plasma display in TVs.  The organic electro-luminescence (OEL) is thin, bright, and needs few consumption electricity for using in TV, but difficult to be used in bigger size.

Some may not be familiar with Power Rangers, which is a team of fictional superhero characters on TV with special effects in some English spoken area who fight against evil characters for good. Our vacation time has come.  In Japan, there is a big holiday season in May, so called ‘Golden Week’.  This holiday period includes Showa Day (April 29), Constitution Memorial Day (May 3), Greenery Day (May 4), and Children’s Day (May 5).

Showa Day, which used to be Emperor’s Birthday, is celebrating the birthday of late Showa Emperor:

Greenery Day was set to make these holidays continuous:

Children’s Day is celebrating the health and growth of children, and is also called Boy’s Day.

This year, 2nd is Saturday and 3rd is Sunday.  Since Constitution Memorial Day falls in Sunday, we have a transfer holiday on May 6:  This makes a 5-straight-day holiday.  For some persons,  taking two extra days off (Apr.30 and May 1) and make it a 8-straight-day holiday, or even taking four extra days off (April 27, 28, 30 and May 1) and a 12-straight-day holiday!!!

It is often said that Japanese are hard workers and seldom take their day off, which might be true.  It is one of three major holidays we usually make a trip.   Due to the still-going affects of economic crisis  plus the pig flu, this year, people may spend this holiday season  nearby.
